Variety of creative courses are awaiting Arts/ Humanities students after their 12th grade. Bachelor degree in any of the arts subjects is the best option for those interested in higher studies. Bachelor courses are available in the fields of advertising , fine arts,  journalism mass communication , media studies, business management, performing arts,  travel and tourismhotel management and much more. These courses have heavy demand and are extremely beneficial for students who are willing to take this as a profession.

Enthusiastic students can take up courses in fashion technologyjewelry designaviation,radio jockey, packaging or industrial design. Those interested in foreign languages can study languages of their interest like French, Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese or Chinese for opting an interpreters job in the consulates and embassies. 

After graduation, candidates can prepare for Civil Service Examination. Those with a flair for writing, can take up content writingas a career option. Ample short duration vocational courses are available in fields of computers, hospitality management,business administration etc. which rewards a promising career with great salary and job satisfaction.

Career Options after 12th Commerce

Students who have taken up commerce stream, have a good future in banking and financial institutions. There are various subjects studied under commerce stream some being theoretical like Business Law and others being practical like Financial accounting, Business finance, Auditing, Taxation etc. Every subject deals with different category of functioning of business. Commerce streams are offered in 12th grade with and without Mathematics.

 +2 commerce students are eligible for clerical post in government offices, banks and defence services. For these post must have to clear the clerical examinations conducted by PSC, IBPS etc. But it is always advisable to complete your graduation before applying to these posts. Career options are available in fields of defence and government services.

10+2 Commerce students planning for further studies can take up careers in professional fields such as Company Secretary, Chartered accountancy (CA), Actuarial Science, ICAI and so on. CA is considered as one of the toughest examination and while doing CA, students should be aware of the fact that every year only a marginal percentage of candidates qualify for these examinations. It is better to pursue professional programs along with graduation or after graduation so as to fetch lucrative job opportunities. Therefore a lot of students choose to do B. Com with a specialization in computers before going for CA degree.

Others can take up bachelor's degree in commerce (B.Com), followed by M.Com, PhD and M.Phil. There are wide range of career opportunities for B.Com graduates. Financial & Investment services, banking, marketing, insurance, stock broking, business process outsourcing etc. offers employment opportunities for these graduates. Accounts Officer, Budget Analyst, Finance Officer, Bank Officer and Accounts Executive are some of the job profiles available for B.Com graduates. Those interested in teaching field can go for B.Ed. But one can go for B.Ed in Commerce only after their post graduation in Commerce i.e. M.com. Other career avenues for commerce students are MBA, Computer studies and Banking.

Students who have taken commerce with maths can take up careers in BCA or B.Sc. Apart these, there are several diploma, certificate and vocational courses which provide entry level jobs in the field of commerce.

Career Field Selection


A student has to decide his / her career path after plus two, the final stage of their school life. Though several courses are available, opting a right career path after 12th standard is a challenging task. Most students might have already chosen their subjects for 12th grade, depending on their interest of career choice. But some may be in a dilemma about 'What career to take up next after 12th?'. While choosing a career after 12th, a student must consider various factors, most importantly his/her interest, ability to cope with the subject chosen, job scope for the career and above all the financial commitments that is necessary during the course. 
You can either attempt for direct entry into a professional course such as engineering, medicine,design, pharmacy, law, agriculture, fisheries, business administration, computer/ IT etc through an entrance exam or choose an academic degree in Arts, Science, commerce or humanities and branch out to a profession after graduation or post graduation. Along with the academic degree, candidates can prepare for Bank Tests, LIC/ GIC Exams, Government Civil Service Exams or other competitive exams conducted by UPSC, SSC, Railways, UGC/ NCTE etc. If interested in defence, one can join the Navy, Air force or Army stream. For a career in Defence, one must qualify the entrance examination conducted by the specific wing. 10+2 candidates from any stream who are physically fit according to physical standards of NDA are eligible to join in the Army wing of the National Defence Academy(NDA) after qualifying an entrance examination.
Teaching is another option for +2 students. To become a nursery or primary teacher, one can go for Nursery Teachers Training or Certificate and Diploma courses in teaching, after your 10+2 stream. Now for teaching from class I to VIII, a pass in TET(Teachers Eligibility Test) conducted by University Grants commission (UGC)is mandatory. For teaching in high schools, you need a B.Ed degree which you can enroll for, after your graduation or post graduation. For lecturer post in colleges, you should take up NET(National eligibility test) conducted by University Grants commission (UGC).
There are numerous options available to pursue a career after 12th. Making the right career choice at the right time will bear fruitful results for the future. Every option has its pluses & minuses but promises good rewards, if you are passionate and are willing to work hard for it. Whatever field you choose, excel in it.
